NYC's HOLIDAY WINDOWS - Part 1

New York City is always an exciting place to live, but during the holidays, it shines. It's full of history and traditions - and as new New Yorkers, we wanted to share some of those traditions with you.

Mom remembers Christmas Windows - complete with Santa Claus - when she was a little girl in California. Those were the days when the big department stores stood alone - long before shopping "Malls" eliminated big windows. Not so in New York City. We have beautiful stores that have stood for years. Granted not as many as there use to be. Bonwit's is gone - Gimbels is now a mall, but Saks, Bergdorfs, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Lord & Taylor remain. We thought it would be fun to share their holiday windows with our fellow bloggers.

First up - Bergdorf Goodman

Bergdorf's windows never disappoint. The imagination and creativity is second to none. David Hoey, the Senior Director of Visual Presentation is the man behind the vision. This year's theme "Compendium of Curiosities" is a nod to the fantasies of Lewis Carroll.

Due and I were exhausted after our 2nd Central Park trip in 3 days - and this time it was just the Moms. Seems they had post-Park plans as we headed out at Central Park South, walked past the Plaza Hotel, to the Bergdorf windows. This first one (and I think we did this in reverse), was a beautiful gown with fanciful horses.
The polar bears - covered in white flapper fringe with beaded head wear were fun - but the Moms thought the mink argyle sweater by Isaac Mizarahi was irresistible
It's tough to see with the reflection - but here are a pair of bagpipe playing ostriches. In tartan on course.
Mom insisted that we get our picture taken in front of the "Through the Looking Glass" window. As you can see - I'm whipped. (And no Mom is not channeling Michael Jackson with her one purple glove - she kept taking the right one off to take photos ).

The venetian mirror frame was stunning. Along with a mirrored fireplace, complete with a mirrored fire.
This Victorian window with a forest of roses even includes the Cheshire Cat. ( He's there - on the upper left hand side of the window.)
The "Drink Me" window from Alice in Wonderland. The wooden staircases leading here and there. Fashions by Alexander McQueen.
Mom's favorite - a bird's eye view of the King and Queen playing chess.
Not sure how this puppy got inside the window....
The Library - all made of paper - with paper animals from Carroll's stories.
Loved the Walrus
Due really wanted to catch that squirrel!
I hope you enjoyed our tour of the Bergdorf Windows...Now if I can get Due to stop off at Tiffany's next...
do you think they have silver dog charms?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Just a quick post to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. We just got back from our holiday romp in the Park - and look what we found...a Pilgrim!
It's actually a statue commemorating the "landing of our PILGRIM FATHERS on Plymouth Rock, December 21, 1620" It was a gift of the New England Society of New York, erected in 1885. One thought - don't you think they should have included the "Pilgrim Mothers" as well. Hmmmm.

So on this day when we reflect on the things we're thankful for - I know what's on the top of my list...wet grass in a beautiful park, a best pal to enjoy it with, and peeps who continue to take us there week after week. In otherwords...FAMILY (& Central Park!)

Excuuuuuse Me!

Granted - this is a lovely shot of 2 dogs I do not know....
And Central Park is basking in its autumn glory...

One problem...NEITHER DUE NOR I ARE IN THESE PHOTOS...

Blogger Rule #1
Take your camera everywhere. You never know when you will see me do something blog-worthy.

Blogger Rule #2
Make sure you charge the battery for above mentioned camera.

Seems Mom has mastered the first rule - not so much the second. We got to the Park this morning and as Mom was taking pictures of dogs we don't know - she realizes that her camera battery is dying...to make matters worse... these are the only pics for the day.
She missed out on all sorts of blogger gems like....

Coffee at a different cafe (apparently the caffeine need was so great we had to stop at the Conservatory Pond Boathouse (Model Boat Pond) for coffee before heading to the Loeb Boathouse for bacon and eggs. I'm just confused that there are 2 boathouses and they don't seem to be anything like each other.
She missed...Due covered with leaves...that stuck all over his coat...ME....ME and Due.....ME with a stick....ME running like the wind and spinning backwards...
okay maybe she needs video to do that one justice.

The point is she messed up and better get it together before the holidays.
Although I do really like that shot on the rocks...maybe next week Due and I can strike a pose there and make it our Christmas card...of course someone will have to charge the battery AND bring along some treats just for good measure...hmmmmm.

I hope you all enjoy your adventures this weekend.

Can You See Me Now?

Don't you just love rolling around in a big pile of leaves?
When we left Virginia for NYC I had to leave behind my own big yard complete with a beautiful maple tree. Mom gets a little sad at times and misses our yard - and the herb garden, not to mention rose garden, the peonies (her favorites) and hydrangeas...I have to remind her that Central Park has all that - and the best thing is - I get to roll in HUGE piles of leaves...and Mom doesn't have to rake any of them! There's always a silver lining - sometimes it just takes a golden girl to point it out. (I also have to remind her that the last hurricane - knocked over our Maple Tree - busted our fence...all on Thanksgiving night ....things us city girls don't have to worry about.

The other great thing about leaf diving...you get all mucky and wet - and then let the fur fly...
Follow me Due - I think I see a mud hole up ahead....
Ahhhhhh....pure joy!!!!
I hear Due had to get a bath when he got home....you know you've had a good time at the Park - if your peeps insist on rinsing you off ! Good Job Due!!!

I hope you all had your own great adventures...rain or shine!

I prefer to do this sans t-shirt...

Yep - pure joy!

#1 A ROMP IN CENTRAL PARK WITH MY BEST PAL DUE
A full throttle romp that is...

Tied for #1 is keeping up with all of our fellow dog bloggers...Mom just didn't have a photo of me at her computer! Check out some of our friends blogs listed to the right.....

Nurse Abbey On Duty...

We've been homebound for a few days as Mom's down with the flu. I'm doing my best nursing her back to health. I even left my newest stuffie toy - THE BEAV on her bed thinking that might help speed up her recovery. Hopefully she'll be back to her old self in time for a Sunday romp in the Park - Until then - enjoy your own adventures....

No - Mom is NOT dressing me up again. She's learned her lesson. We found this cute golden retriever nurse pic @ Land of Pure Gold. Check them out here.

PAR-TAY

I know. We have to go to the Dog Run (Peter Detmold Park) for the Halloween Party - and I have to wear a costume. I draw the line at walking through the neighborhood in this getup. Suddenly I'm not such a fan of Mr. Jeter's. I won't budge. Even Carlos, our doorman tells Mom she has to take the shirt off me. (Thanks Mr. C.) Once I am back to my happy naked self - we head to the party.

There's a big crowd - so I let Mom put the silly outfit back on me. After all it seems other 4-legged pals actually like this sort of thing..
Wait a second - I see other dogs without costumes...
And then there's Francesca - dressed like a dog! (I'm so confused)....
Mike has our attention....he always has a pocket full of treats! That's Sammy on the left and Officer Max (Mike's pup) on my right.
And this is me....doing my best Jeter impersonation....caught it!
I must admit...some of these guys look pretty cool...the lap sitting pugs....
My favorite outfit....Mack the Fire Truck....
And big Max...New York's Finest....
These 2 jazzersize beauties (Cali & Emma) took advantage of Mom's lap....not sure how I feel about that...
Love the Beanie on Oscar....it even spins....
Dottie, as a cute little clown...
And Maleki....I think he's looking for a margarita...
OK. I admit. THIS WAS FUN....
Mike thinks I might help the Yankees win....he said I should keep my outfit on...there were Philly fans roaming our streets.....we have to show them who's boss!!!!
Time to head home and get ready for the game.....
UPDATE: Yankees win. 2 down. 2 to go!

Mom said since I was such a good sport - she's making me a new batch of treats. YES!!!!
