Absolutely, especially a sunny bench with pretty flowers near by.

We don't get alot of that "sun" out here in the Pacific Northwest, but I totally get that "take a moment to savor and look around" thing. Momma says the Italians have a phrase for it: il dolce far niente (or something like that--I'm a dog, what do I know)... meaning "the sweetness of doing nothing". Thank you, Wendy for sharing Abbey's lessons. She was one wise gal!

I'm so so sorry for your loss. I remember when my Pal died -- just two weeks after being totally fine and in great health for a 13 y/o -- I wrote out some of his life lessons for myself just like this. It seemed kind of silly but it also helped :)

Abbey is one of the smartest dogs I know!

Just like Abbey, I love hanging in the park with the warmth of the sun on my back. We dogs teach people to slow down and savour the moment; the joy of small things like a park bench surrounded by flowers and the sound of the ice cream truck coming.

That is a face that warms the heart. And a great life lesson - although I keep failing at the sit part...can I hippity hop on the bench?

Ah, so simple and yet one of the hardest lessons any of us can learn. It seems my boy Duncan has taught me this lesson a hundred times but only smiles patiently as I try to absorb it yet again. Our entire culture seems designed in the opposite direction so it's understandable we'd forget.

I hope you've had some time to sit on a bench and watch the world be the world. It does wonders for the spirit.

I'm all about doing nothing, but my Moms tend to feel guilty if they aren't doing something productive. I guess that's exactly what Abbey was barking about, huh?

lotsa licks, Lola
