LIfe Lesson #9

Couch Surfing
is a birth right.

Just sayin!

Actually this is a lesson for Mom. I KNOW you have a thing about "dogs" on the furniture. But it's going to happen - so you should just relax and cuddle up with me!

You can see by Abbey's technique in this photo that she was a pro. You don't just get on the couch -but on TOP of the pillows as well, for maximum comfort and cushiness. Job well done! Ellie has a head start in life with Abbey's lessons to guide her.

We struggled with Monty when we first got him. Then we gave up and just allowed him on the couch. Now he hardly ever gets in trouble!

Tonight on my own blog I wrote about coming home to discover Duncan curled up on the couch, which is not at all unusual. What struck me about it was that he'd pulled one of my sweaters down the hall and onto the couch where he could curl up on it and sleep.

I wish I could tell you how many times I've clutched a piece of clothing to my face after someone has gone so I could breathe them in. The place in the brain that processes smells is right next door to the place that handles memory, which is why scent is the sense that has the strongest connection to memory.

How wonderful for our four-legged companions to curl up on that place where we rest and breathe us in all day. It must be like we're right there with them, connected and close, despite time and distance.

Abbey is wise indeed.
